randy stands by the tv reciting the rules and i nearly stood up in my apartment to applaud. casey becker dies in the cold open for blowing the jason-vs-the-original trivia, and that's the thesis in miniature: here, illiteracy is fatal. survival is a reading-comprehension test. sidney does the work. she drops the sex-equals-death cliche and then turns it back on the killer, the rarest move in the whole field, a final girl who's read the footnotes. people call this a parody. it isn't. it obeys its own logic harder than the films it cites. that's scholarship.
