roger l. jackson's voice on that opening phone call is still the only thing here that gets under me. everything goes still right before he says it. the rest is bright american slasher sport. loud, fast, too clean, nothing left ringing afterward. that catwalk scare lands and then a car hits him and the room laughs. fine. but the finale reveal explains and explains and i felt myself check out completely.

the opening at the prescott-house slasher museum got me, they built a fun-house out of sidney's worst day and i was on board instantly. critics are dragging this like it personally wronged them and i don't get it. neve campbell walks back in and the whole thing finally feels like SCREAM again. the catwalk-behind-the-wall bit where ghostface keeps stabbing through and missing, and then a CAR just takes him out on the street. come on. that's the good stuff. is the killer reveal the strongest in the run? no. but kevin williamson came home to direct it and audiences showed UP, biggest grosser in the franchise. the part-7 hate is going to age badly.
