"i refuse to be the girl who investigates the noise." that's sidney walking back into woodsboro and not flinching when the phone rings. she's read the rules, she wrote half of them. the requel does its homework: it openly grades fandom for treating the canon like a hostage situation, and it's right to. ortega's cold open restates the casey barrymore problem cleanly, pick up the phone and you're already a footnote. things get crowded with two final girls and the math of who carries the survival logic isn't always tidy. but it follows its own rules, which is more than most legacy slashers manage. sidney mentoring instead of dying is the move. her strategy gets an A. rip to the ones who split up.
