a man scooping out his own grey matter to beat the clock, every seam of the prosthetic doing its job. greutert kept it practical and it shows, real rigs, somebody offscreen pumping blood while the bladed mask creeps in. the eye vacuum is a nasty bit of engineering too, and even though it turns out to be in john's head, the suckout still reads physical, not painted. only a few digital touch-ups and i couldn't catch them from the couch, which is the highest compliment i've got. and tobin bell actually carries it, the kills land harder when you give a damn about the man springing them. best one of these in years.
