jason wades out of the lake carrying freddy's severed head like a bowling trophy, and then the head WINKS at you. cinema. i'll defend this anywhere. people act like the crossover everyone begged about for a decade turned out to be an embarrassment. no. ronny yu understood the assignment. the cornfield rave where jason swings the machete through an entire bonfire crowd is the goriest setpiece either franchise attempted, and the dock fight where they turn each other's own weapons against them pays off twenty years of buildup. teen dialogue rough? sure. but this is englund's best freddy since dream warriors, lowkey his send-off. the eighth nightmare and the eleventh friday at once, and it rules.
