a priest carrying a vial of consecrated blood up the stairwell instead of a gun. THIS is the part everyone forgets to be scared of. everyone calls it a virus, but the film knows better, and so do i. tristana medeiros isn't sick. she's old. she's something planted in that penthouse, and the building has waited, patient, for the right night to bring her up. the night-vision crawl through the dark, where the children's faces turn toward the camera, lives in me now. that's not a jump scare. that's the dark deciding to look back. owen thought a sample and a prayer was the price. it never is. loses its footing when the soldiers stomp in. but the ending keeps its word. she walks out wearing someone else and nobody at the door has the faith to notice.
