synchronized housewives doing a little kitchen ballet while the eggs turn out hollow. that's the entire feminist thesis served in a martini glass and i drank it. florence pugh is doing tour de force work in a movie that doesn't always deserve her, carrying the thing on one arched eyebrow. yes the mystery lands with a shrug. yes the ending needs another pass. but that technicolor desert dollhouse with every wall closing in, chris pine grinning like a cult brochure, kept me wide awake. she lost the plot and pugh found it anyway. never bored once, which is the rarest special effect there is.
