stephen root running an apocalyptic death cult in a beige business-casual blazer. THAT is the look. this one is very serious, very long, very sure of itself, and i respect a film that went this hard on whistling at people. but i kept waiting for it to wink at me and it simply refused. the cave skeleton gives a fully dedicated performance, didn't move once. lots of lovely staring from the lead too. i could not finish it in one sitting if you paid me, but i would hire that cult's costuming tomorrow.

a man sitting cross-legged in the crevice, facing a thing that shouldn't have a skeleton. they hold on him and let the whistling do the work. the first twenty minutes are a complete short film and i would frame them. a suspension bridge, a sound nobody should follow, no music telling you when to be afraid. that's a director willing to make you wait. the middle wanders and i don't entirely mind. james badge dale plays a man being slowly unwritten. it stays quiet more often than it loses it. nobody saw this in 2020 and i understand why. i also think they were wrong.
