alice picks up the machete and takes mrs voorhees' head off in one swing, and that's where the whole thing starts. ten bodies on the board and the survivor isn't the one who drinks or strips, she's the one paying attention. before the rules were rules, this was already enforcing them. what gets me is the killer is a grieving mother, not a masked man, so the survival logic predates the icon it supposedly belongs to. alice grades high: composed, improvises with the machete, doesn't trust the false dawn. only mark against her is the canoe, you do not relax until the credits roll. foundational. the syllabus opens on crystal lake.

kevin bacon takes an arrow up through the mattress and out his throat, and that's not even the boldest swing here. the killer isn't jason, it's his MOM, and people forget that. they slap a hockey mask on every poster when the OG has no mask and no jason doing the killing, just betsy palmer running a one-woman possessed-mother routine in a cable-knit sweater. tom savini went feral on these kills before anyone knew the lore would even become lore. best entry? no, part 3 is where it gets interesting and i'll argue it. but none of the rest exists without this slow, soggy camp crystal lake blueprint. that canoe at the end still gets me every time.
