A "metal fetishist", driven mad by the maggots wriggling in the wound he's made to embed metal into his flesh, runs out into the night and is accidentally run down by a Japanese businessman and his girlfriend. a metal thorn pushing up through his cheek while he shaves. that's where it got me. this is not a movie, it's 67 minutes of pure assault. the 16mm grain hisses and clanks like the film stock itself is rusting. chu ishikawa's score isn't music it's the sound of a factory dying, all clashing tools and machine clatter, and it never lets anything breathe, which is the point. the stop-motion where the metal grows out of him moves wrong in a way 4k could never fake. the subway chase, the woman with the tentacle, around the halfway mark, i had to sit very still after. analog body horror at its most pulverizing. i could hear this movie in my teeth.
