the first head goes off and the office just keeps quietly photocopying for a second. that beat is the only restraint the movie has. i came for the dread of eighty people realizing the doors don't open. there's a real film in that hush, the long minutes where nobody wants to be the one to pick up a weapon. mcginley sweating in his cubicle is worse than any wound. then it decides the chips in everyone's skull are a punchline and starts popping heads like a counter. funny once. loud forever after. it mistakes noise for tension and never finds its way back to where it started. i wanted it to trust the silence. it didn't.
