a kaiju movie should not be allowed to get this wrong. the second-form crawl thing with the googly dead eyes and the gushing red gills haunts me more than half the ghosts i grew up on. and then the atomic breath. it goes silent first. everything drops out and the city turns that blinding white and the purple beams unzip the skyline like a tape getting eaten. i had to sit there. yes it's two hours of men shuffling into a different conference room. that IS the horror. the calm bureaucracy while something evolves in the bay. the hushed stretches are the scariest, right when the back lights up.
