real flesh, wrong proportions, a colossal animatronic looming over the wall like a held breath. the titans are men in makeup and bodysuits and that is exactly why they made my skin crawl. when the wall breaks the low rumble under it is the scariest thing here. then the 3D gear kicks in and the cgi flattens everything into weightless videogame air and it all drops out. so much practical dread undone by floaty pixels. i wanted to stay in the parts that were quiet and watched. the bodies were enough. the bodies were always enough.
