Nut up or shut up.
Columbus has made a habit of running from what scares him. Tallahassee doesn't have fears. If he did, he'd kick their ever-living ass. In a world overrun by zombies, these two are perfectly evolved survivors. But now, they're about to stare down the most terrifying prospect of all: each other.

these people survive on a rulebook, which i deeply approve of: cardio, double tap, check the back seat, after-action thinking baked into doctrine before first contact. the trouble is they keep abandoning hardened positions for sentiment. driving cross-country for a theme park? pacific playland is the worst possible perimeter, open sightlines, no choke points, rides that strand you mid-air. tallahassee shooting without looking is style over containment. fun unit cohesion though. supply discipline: F, they raid for twinkies. a charming squad i'd court-martial. tactical grade: C+.

that opening slo-mo montage is a clinic. real squibs, real meat, blood that pools the way it actually pools. harrelson working through a banjo, then a bat, then the shears in the supermarket is a craftsman showing off and i respect every second. plenty of latex on these walkers, no shortcuts. the nun dropping a piano is the high note. it leans comedy harder than i'd like and a couple wide shots felt thin, but they earned the gore and they let it splatter. that's all i ever ask.
- Commander ZedAgreed, those on-screen rules basically work as a field manual. More discipline than most evacuations manage. Comms: A, Perimeter: B+.

a horror movie that let me breathe? finally. the zombie clown almost ended me and i don't even have a clown thing, but mostly i laughed more than i flinched. two pauses, both in the supermarket where tallahassee is casually murdering things with garden shears. i could've turned the lights off for once and didn't, old habits. finished it in one sitting, which never happens for me. thank you zombieland for making the apocalypse feel like hanging out with people who'd actually keep me alive. the bill murray part though. not ready for him to go out like that.
