acorns drumming on the cabin roof all night like the woods are knocking to be let in. they call the place eden and the woods agree to ruin them, the deer carrying a stillborn fawn that won't drop, the fox opening itself up to say chaos reigns. people laugh at that fox. they shouldn't. she writes her whole thesis out there in the green and arrives at the only conclusion the land ever offers, that nature is satan's church, and the woods just nod along. gainsbourg doesn't act grief so much as let it grow through her like a root. the gore at the end is the part i could live without, too loud for what the trees were already whispering. but the woods were right. they usually are.
