a full body suit with zero cgi in the year of our lord 2026, i almost cried. the crunching footsteps and roars off in the snow did more for me than half the jump-scare factories i sat through this year, and brittany allen keeps the whole thing from floating off into pure kitsch even when the script clearly has no idea if it wants to make me sad about her dad or laugh at a scene involving intestines. is it messy, yeah, the editing loses track of who's where and it never really finds the throat-tightening dread it keeps reaching for. but i grew up taping monster movies off late night syndication and this hits that exact nerve, snowbound and gooey and sincere in a way that mainstream horror forgot how to be. i'll take a lumpy little creature feature that means it over a polished one that doesn't every single time

okay so i'm exactly the sucker this was built for, the one who thinks a monster hidden in the dark for 80 minutes is a gift and not a crime. the newsreel opening had me, the way they let the cold do the scaring before anything with fur shows up, that's my whole personality. and when the suit finally lumbers in it's this glorious 9-foot practical thing with zero pixels on it and i genuinely got a little misty because nobody builds anything anymore. but the campfire scenes... y'all. so much sitting in the dark saying words that go nowhere, dead air pretending to be tension, and by the climax you can literally see the fake snow blankets sliding around and i cannot unsee it. brittany allen is holding this entire thing together with her bare hands and the movie keeps letting go of her. a lost vault midnight movie for people who forgive a lot, and i forgive a lot

a full body suit with not one speck of cgi anywhere near it and you wanna know something? i teared up a little. they BUILT this thing, it has weight, when it crashes a body in half you feel the latex and the karo syrup doing honest work. that grisly intestine bit had me grinning like an idiot in a near empty amc. is the script clunky? oh absolutely, half these characters sit in the dark talking and i forgot their names while they were still alive, and the ending reaches for something it never earns. but i don't care. i came for a man in a suit doing horrible things to people in the snow and i got exactly that. they spent the money where it matters. rip to everyone in this movie, the elements were never the problem
