she finds the doll's been talking with no batteries inside it, and that one shot does more than half the kills in horror. here's my read: karen barclay is a slasher final girl in disguise. struggling widow, brushed off by every man with a badge, forced to weaponize the exact domestic object meant to placate her kid. she threatens the fireplace and the whole power structure flips. whether a two-foot doll counts as a stalker is fair to ask. it does. dourif's voice carries the menace a guy in a mask has to lumber around for. karen aces survival, the babysitter does not; she got got at the window and i saw it three beats early. funnier than it should be and creepier than it has any right to be at once. holds up.
