a scrap of red candy in the dead girl's mouth, a tiny offering left in the wrong vessel. cities never learn to leave a thing be. wet concrete and ringtones, and usually i've got no ground to stand on in a film like this. no field, no well, no turning season. and yet the cursed little melody works exactly like the old rhymes. you hear it, you're already marked. the live exorcism on tv is the most truthful minute in the whole thing. a village rite dragged under studio lights and sold for ratings, curdling right on cue. some things resent an audience. the hospital stretch loses the thread and leans on the jolt. i'd have let the dread sit longer. still, a curse that travels by phone is just word of mouth in a new coat, and word of mouth is older than all of us.
