fiennes feeding a sedated tiger the blind girl's hand is the only scene that actually got under my skin. dolarhyde isn't a slasher, he's a profile, and the whole film is graham reading a crime scene out loud. survival as procedure. the Reba thread is the real find: a killer who can't finish because she never once looks at him. she lives by accident. competent and very familiar, with lecter running his greatest hits and knowing it. but fiennes commits like that back tattoo is load-bearing. i wanted the dread to follow me home and it stayed politely at the theater.
