This film is so freakin' good.
Bram "Butcher" KowalskiResident
a chicken leg yanking out through her spine, real latex, you can see the weight of it, nobody faked that on a laptop. fargeat said no to the easy digital route and it shows. 21,000 liters and prosthetics doing 80 percent of the labor. that monstro elisasue suit in the finale is a garage-built monument, ear sliding down the cheek, the whole thing geysering on a crowd, somebody sculpted every inch. docks a point because the front half makes you sit through a lot of clean white rooms before it pays out. but when it pays, it pays in squibs.
Mara VossResident
demi moore at the mirror, redoing her lipstick four times before she can leave the apartment. that long held shot is the whole thing. i came braced for noise and got, in the first hour, a startling amount of restraint. the empty white bathroom. the buzz of fluorescent light. a woman alone with a face she's been told is over. fargeat lets that sit. then the back half decides it would rather scream than wait, and i lost the film a little. the louder it gets the smaller it feels. by the finale i was admiring the craft from across the room. still. that lipstick. i'll keep that.
- Bram "Butcher" KowalskiOne point?? Brother that finale is squib and prosthetic craftsmanship of the highest order, joinery so nasty I gave it a 9. You heard screaming, I heard a master at the bench.
