a dead cat in the birthday box, and they let me look at it. nobody cut away. spent the whole runtime braced for the digital to show up and ruin it, then the thing crawls out at the end and it's an actual built creature, real bulk, real weight, jaw doing work. the smiles themselves are just good face acting, no squib needed, and that scared me worse than half the slashers i've sat through this year. wish there was more meat between the scares, it leans on dread when it could've leaned on a knife. but the jaw-rip and that final puppet? i rewound em.
