a heart cut clean out of a hanged boy and laid in the snow. that's no murder, that's an offering, and the academy men were too proud to read it. west point in winter, trees black against all that white, every breath fogging up. cold daylight horror that absolutely works. bale moves through it like a man who already knows what the ground takes. melling's poe is the only one listening to the land. people grumble the last turn drags, but reckonings were never meant to be quick. i sat with this one long after the credits.
