orlok rising straight up out of that coffin like a board is still the single most upsetting thing a body has ever done on camera. every vampire since has been somebody's heartthrob and fine, but THIS is the one that gets it right. he is basically a shaved rat that smells like a plague ship and i would not change a hair. and the shadow climbing the stairs, the fingers reaching, you never even see him, just the hand crawling up the wall, and my whole spine left the building. people treat 1922 like homework. no. i had the lights on.
