a thing that lives in a hollow tree and wears the skins of whoever came too close. that's not a monster. that's the woodline doing its job. the dark mother takes what the forest is owed and makes you forget you ever had it. the parents who lose their children and feel nothing, that's the cruelest part and the truest. the soil keeps no records. the deer carcass coming apart in the dark stayed with me longer than any scream. quiet rot beats a jump scare every time. plot's a little thin where the mystery wants to be a kid's adventure, sure. but the witch crawling back out of a body at the end is the reaping taking its shape. i wasn't rooting for the boy. i was rooting for the tree.
