a locked door at the end of the hall, and the sound of something chewing behind it. that's the whole film working for me. cooper lets it spread slowly, the oregon damp doing more than the creature ever needs to. the wendigo itself is a real thing when it finally stands up, antlers and all, no cheating. i wish the screenplay let the grief sit instead of explaining the legend to me twice. but a boy feeding the dark in his own house, patient, dutiful, that image earned every quiet second.
