a thunderstorm that decided to walk. godzilla moving through tokyo at night is the scariest thing here, and they finally let the silence carry it again, no goofy showa fanfare, just dread and the cadmium shells going down his throat while he roars. apocalyptic when the sumitomo building topples onto the super-x, all rumble and groan. drags in the politics though, two governments arguing in clean conference rooms while the monster waits offscreen. but every time he's actually there it lands closer to horror than anything before it. analog 80s tokyo glowing right up until it gets stepped on.
