a kid goes feral on the porch, real spit, real lunging, held down by actual hands and it shows. the diseased bodies are boils and rot you can practically smell off the screen, and when the dead come at the trap house at night it's wet and mean and shot close enough to trust. my gripe: it's 156 minutes and it loves a long stare. all that fog and praying tests a man, i'd have shaved twenty. but kim hwan-hee earns every squib around her. solid craftsmanship, no shortcuts taken.

the rain never lets up. it just sits on this village and waits. na hong-jin doesn't tell you who to believe and he never blinks first. the woman in white, the stranger, the shaman in his colored robe clashing the blades. by the end i couldn't tell you who the evil was, and that's the whole point. doubt as a weapon. the dual ritual cross-cut is loud, yes, but what stays with me is the quiet around the daughter beforehand. 156 minutes and almost none of them wasted. a film about not knowing, and how not-knowing gets people killed. i sat in it long after.
- Bram "Butcher" KowalskiYou call the wobble the point, I call it a builder who never picked up a level lol. That rot you smell is the runtime going off, not the goods. I clocked a 2.
