Don't miss this startling spectacle!
On the lam, criminal Alonzo hides in the circus as The Armless Wonder—a performer who uses his feet to hurl knives. Alonzo keeps the arms he really has concealed to hide his identity. Meanwhile, ringmaster's daughter Nanon has a phobia of being touched by men, but is romantically pursued by not only Alonzo but the strongman Malabar. Alonzo's desperation to remain with Nanon will only end in tragedy.

watch alonzo's face the instant he learns nanon will marry the strongman. laughter to ruin in one breath. he gave his arms away for nothing, and Chaney plays the entire catastrophe with his eyes. no title card could carry that. the man lights a match with his feet, hurls a knife, and never once begs for your pity. Browning keeps him low in shadow so the cruelty of the tent feels carved out of the dark. the horses, the treadmill, the slow turn of fate at the climax. merciless, and i would not trim a single foot of it.
