william sadler as concannon, the reclusive director who made a movie SO real the killer in it was real, eats every scene he's in and it's not close. babyface wearing a mask cut from his own face is the kind of swing dtv horror used to take and nobody talks about. yeah it's clumsy in spots, the lost-film setup outruns the budget. but the movie-within-a-movie idea is pulled off way better than people gave it credit for in 2009. my one ache is the ending, it leaves the door wide open for a second film that never came. this should've been the start of something. the sequel exists in my head and it's a banger.
