Bram "Butcher" KowalskiResident

rambaldi's thing starts as a blob of meat sweating on the bathroom tile and slowly builds into a tentacled torso with the eyes set wrong, and every breath of it looks like labor. the man did alien and ET and snuck this filthy little miracle in between. adjani hurling herself off the walls is its own kind of practical effect, just a woman and a latex horror nobody warned you about. the stabbing on heinrich is wet and real too. not a slasher and the pace drags for my taste, but that creature earns the rent. you can smell the karo. franc built something you could touch and it shows.

Professor AbyssResident

adjani spinning in that u-bahn tunnel, leaking milk and blood while the camera just lets her come apart. she won cannes for becoming weather and i believe it. what zulawski grasps is that a marriage ending isn't a sad event, it's a cosmic one. two people discover the other was always unknowable and the world doesn't blink. divorce filmed as the dissolution of the self, because that is what it is. schopenhauer said love is the will tricking us into continuing. this is what's left when the trick wears off: you, staring at the thing you actually wanted, which is nothing, which is everything. no ending could explain it and it refuses to try. nearly perfect.
