an endless wet bronx midnight, and i kept thinking, take it outside. demons keep better in soil than in a precinct basement. that said, the woman who walks her own toddler to the lion enclosure at the zoo, calm as anything, that one stuck. no rain, no music sting, just a mother doing what something told her to do. derrickson knows how to let a room breathe before it turns. i wish he trusted the quiet more than the jump. sean harris under the paint, growling the doors at us, is a good rotten thing. this is a city film and i am not a city soul, but it understands that some knowledge arrives uninvited and once it's in you the harvest has already started. i'd have buried this one in a field.
