a five-minute montage of malcolm in bed with the conjuring's abigail doll is doing more structural work than anything in the actual conjuring. wrong genre for me, though. this is possession parody, sinister and insidious and the conjuring run through one filter, and parody plays by rules i don't grade. no final girl here; there's barely a girl who survives a scene unhumiliated. cedric the entertainer doing the warren-priest bit nails the one rule a spoof actually has, know your source cold. it does. crude, relentless, sometimes the joke is just the same joke louder. but the abigail material knows precisely which scene it's desecrating. that's craft of a kind.
