a wide-angle lens swells Hrusinsky's face into a moon of mild benevolence right as he speaks of relief from suffering. monstrous, and not a drop of blood spent to get there. Milota slides his silvered frame from a parlor mirror into a temple of ovens without ever cutting clean away. the banality of evil rendered as lullaby: a man stroking corpses and combing his hair with the very same tenderness. Hrusinsky purrs his way into damnation and i could not look away. the gentlest voice is always the most frightening, and here is the proof, set in a Prague crematorium. monochrome is a feature.
