Godzilla vs. Biollante
1989 · 105 min · Action · Horror · Science Fiction
The winner of this battle would be the most enormous enemy against human beings.
After the previous Godzilla attack, a miniature arms race ensues to collect his cells. Concerned over Godzilla's possible return, the Japanese government uses the cells to create a new bio-weapon, ANEB (Anti-Nuclear Energy Bacteria). They seeks the aid of geneticist Genshiro Shiragami, who's experiments result in a new mutation.

i was not ready for a man-in-suit movie to do THAT to me. biollante comes apart into glowing light and the cloud drifts up and resolves into a dead girl's face. came in braced for sports, big lizard, city falls down, i clock out. but this one has grief in it, real grief under all the genetics talk, a daughter turned into a rosebush turned into a mouth full of teeth. the rose form before she's done growing is the scariest she ever looks. the lake catching fire is pure analog dread, smoke and miniature water and grain you can almost smell. the human scenes drag, too many men in rooms saying science at each other. but the slow parts get under you. i didn't expect to be sad about a plant.
