the zombies freezing mid-scream to download new intel is nastier than anything in the plot

the part that actually got me wasn't the running or the slime, it was the realization that they *learn*. one of them figures something out and suddenly they ALL know it. networked zombies sharing intel like a group chat is so much scarier than a guy just chewing on you. gianna jun spends two hours never once catching her breath and i felt that in my own chest. yeah the second half jams in way too much drama between people who should be running, and yeah i've seen the raid, but the contortionists doing whatever they were doing in that stairwell? i would simply not be in that building. rip to everyone working that biotech conference

the bioweapon is a slime mold. a fungus. mycelium threading through the dead so the swarm shares one set of eyes and learns from every body it loses. that's the realest thing in here, and nobody on screen seems to grasp it the way the soil would. i kept thinking about how a mushroom is only the part you can see. they sealed it in a glass conference building, though, and a hive that old wants ground, wants rot, wants room to spread out under your feet. you feel yeon reaching for something rooted and then a man stops the whole film to explain it to you again. the infected moving as one mind is genuinely beautiful and a little holy. the people are just people, scared and loud. i was rooting for the colony. of course i was. it kept its word. they kept stalling.
