a long empty hospital corridor where nothing moves and the light hums and you wait. that is the film. everyone wants to talk about the thing with the shears but the stretch of nothing before it is the whole reason it lands. blatty lets a room sit until it goes wrong. george c scott just listens to brad dourif for what feels like ten unbroken minutes and the wrongness creeps in sideways. a talky sequel that dares you to stay still. more quiet than anything else from that year. i wish it had ended one confessional monologue sooner but i forgive it.
