2001 · 91 min · Horror · Science Fiction

Evil gets an upgrade.

In the year 2455, Old Earth is now a contaminated planet abandoned for centuries -- a brown world of violent storms, toxic landmasses and poisonous seas. Yet humans have returned to the deadly place that they once fled, not to live, but to research the ancient, rusting artifacts of the long-gone civilizations. But it's not the harmful environment that could prove fatal to the intrepid, young explorers who have just landed on Old Earth. For them, it's Friday the 13th, and Jason lives!

a liquid nitrogen face freeze, then they shatter her frozen head on a counter, and people act like this franchise has nothing left to give. they call this the one where jason goes to space like it's an insult. it's the bravest entry. you cannot do the holographic camp crystal lake gag with the two sleeping-bag girls in any other slasher and have it land, it's a callback AND a joke at the same time. then they upgrade him into uber jason, nanobots rebuilding him with the chrome mask, and i'm sorry but it's cooking. critics gave it a 20. the audience came around because the audience was right. part 10 went and learned to fly a spaceship into a sun.
