Time didn't heal anything.
Twenty-eight years after the Rage virus outbreak, a heavily-defended island survives connected to the mainland by a single causeway. When one of the group leaves the island into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.

two hours of a tender little coming-of-age zombie poem, and then jimmy crystal struts in with a TRACKSUIT cult and i yelped. ralph fiennes painted gold, building a cathedral out of skulls, all the way in, no notes. every infected alpha out there serving full frontal menace. alfie williams, the child, actually carries the thing, which is wonderful and a little embarrassing for the adults. i did not need the boots poem to wreck me but it DID. half of it is grief, the other half is a man in a shellsuit, and i live for a movie that refuses to pick a lane.

the hills have gone back to flowers and that's the scariest thing in it. rewilded scotland eating the motorway, deer on the causeway, a boy learning the bow before he learns much else. daylight horror, harder and better for it. kelson stacking bones into a tower out in the open, memento mori, the earth reclaiming what the rage left behind. when the new world rots, the old one creeps back. i sided with the quiet of the mainland over the locked island, plainly. only the tracksuit boys turning up at the end broke the spell, like a different film barged in. but the birth in the dark, the skull temple, that stayed with me.
